Just getting it running with the standard Miata powertrain for now. Future plans include building a Honda K24 with a stretch goal of 350 hp. Been applying ED1 calculations to the K-series engines for main bearing oil film thicknesses, piston speed/acceleration evaluations of the rods/pistons etc. I applied the ED2 calculations to the valvetrain and measured a set of cams to do some very rough valve speed/acceleration calculations as well. Doing a lot of it to reinforce the lessons learned.
Classes with homework due on Mondays were always more convenient in my opinion, but I never wanted to look at anything after spending the whole weekend doing homework. I would say it’s VERY beneficial to get an early look at the coming weeks contents, and even just laying out what your homework requirements will be for the next week. I remember often looking at things on Thursdays and Fridays thinking “I should have done this on Tuesday…”
The dyno lab is open 5 days a week. I was going all week but my test cell is running reasonably well now so I’m usually only in for 3-4 days. Fortunately I got to keep my desk, just have to put up with wearing a mask all day long, minor inconveniences.
Eagerly awaiting the final class/semester of the program! I’m on the short list of people approved to work from the dynamometer lab, which has helped me immensely with keeping a regular schedule and washing clothes other than pajamas. That being said, Ford has suspended all discretionary spending, which includes tuition assistance. They’re claiming it could be back on September 1st, which I’m assuming gives me about 24 hours to get a request in before classes start. I’m preparing for the worst and expecting to pay out of pocket at this point, so pinching pennies where I can. Looking forward to the birth of a daughter in September as well, so there’s lots happening this Fall…
